So much has already changed. From tablets, kindles, to ebooks, using laptops to write instead of pen and paper.
The future is ever changing. Some things good, some bad.
I chose to predict 2025 because it's the year I plan on publishing my novel and I often wonder what the industry will be like by then.
These are my predictions:
1. We'll become "skimmers"
We already are, but it will get worse to the point that books will get shorter and shorter.
2. More pictures and possibly embedded videos
Adult, YA and other books besides children's books will have more pictures and possibly embedded videos (somehow?).
3. Who wrote the book? Technology or the author?
I think specialized software (even more so than services like Grammarly) will bring this into question. I think it may start crossing the line of "Did that author write their novel or did they have the software do a lot of the work?" At what point is a line crossed?
4. Quest to protect the environment
Steps will be taken to reduce the impact of book consumption on the environment. Engineers might start to look into different materials to make books.
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree? What are your predictions for the future of writing and reading?
