Welcome! I'm Simone and have fallen back in love with reading and writing.
I've been a personal trainer and coach for over the past four years and I love what I do. But something else - among all the other things I already do - was missing, which was why I wrote my book, started this blog and decided to go back to school to become a teacher.
This is my second website after MIA'ing on my first one. It was/is a blog about fitness and health called Simone's Fit Fun Life. I still love fitness and health and plan on staying in the industry, but instead do it part time while I teach full time.
Let me start off by saying I'm the type of person who always needs to be accomplishing something. I know how to play the flute, I am learning Greek (very slowly), I figure skate and now I'm adding reading and writing to the list!
Sometimes I get a bit carried away with myself and jump into one thing and dedicate all my time into it, before moving onto the next hobby. I promise I won't be abandoning this website though! Or at least not reading and writing.
I'll prove it to you.
My Dad used to barge into my room when I was younger and snatch books away from me. Rightfully so, because I was reading them at 4AM on a school night! And the best thing about loving books as a kid was that whenever I got punished and sent to my room I would just pick up a book and read. Ha! Beat that Mom and Dad.
I seriously love them though, along with my brother and sister. This is a recent picture of them before we went to my Mom's 60th birthday celebration. Fun fact: she invited more people to her 60th birthday than my husband and I did to our wedding! My siblings and I were born here in Canada but my Mom is from Barbados and my Dad is from St. Kitts.
Anyways, the older I got the less I read. It became more of a chore
That's when I told myself I needed to read more and encouraged others as well. We needed to fall back in love with books again. Subsequently after, I dug up all the short stories and books I wrote as child and teen and laughed at memories long forgotten.
One memory I'll never forget was when I was in middle school.
There I was at 12 years old, sauntering into the classroom with another one of my "books" in a binder. I proudly showed my classmates my THICK 20 PAGE double spaced story. I lifted my chin with a smirk as my classmates gawked in amazement.
We all have to start somewhere right?
In all honesty, I want to help myself and others who are on the same journey of falling back in love with books or who are simply trying to read more. The struggle is real and you're not alone!
My goal for this website is for it to be the go-to for born-again readers and a place for discussions among the reading and writing community.
Oh, and I'd also like for you to buy my book one day if I'm being totally honest :)
Which brings me to my next point. This is not going to be a typical blog. I called it a journal for a reason.
One of the characters in my book journals her life and experiences exactly the way she pleases and does not conform to any rule. Sometimes I'll make blog posts and sometimes I'll make journal entries, but one thing that will stay constistent is this:
Every Wednesday I will
I will also update those who are interested in my writing process, share any new developments and additional tips or resources I might have. Journal entries may be long or short and may or may not help you because I'm no expert (yet).
Just want to put that out there so we're all on the same page (see what I did there?) :)
Are you a writer or born-again reader?
