I struggled with this for a long time.
I STILL struggle with this.
However, there's no denying how important it is. If you can't speak about it in confidence no one else will and you'll give a bad impression.
Follow these 4 beginner steps to confidently answer the loaded question,
"What is your book about?"
1. Plan it out
Take out a piece of paper and write down the main elements of your book. The personality of the character(s), the setting, the genre or anything else you think highlights the uniqueness of your book.
2. Know your elevator pitch
Check out this blog post. It helped me immensely. I can't explain it any better than he did and I'm too lazy too haha.
3. Say it aloud
I think this is one of the most important parts. Look in a mirror and practice your elevator pitch so you eliminate as many stumbles and misconstrued facial expressions as possible.
This is similar to the previous point but this time you're going to practice it on friends and family and even strangers if the topic comes up. The more you do it the better you'll get and the more refined it will become.
1. Plan out the aspects of the book
2. Create an elevator pitch
3. Say it aloud to yourself
4. Practice on friends and family
What kinds of things have you been doing to speak about your novel with confidence?
